COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT LIPOSCULPTURE:
What’s the difference between liposuction and liposculpture?
They actually respond to the same procedure, but the word liposculpture is more descriptive since during the surgery extra fat is removed from some body areas such as abdomen, back, thighs, etc, remodelling or sculpturing the small details of these areas. It is important to highlight this surgery does not correct obesity. It is used to model and shape and to provide a more pleasant looks, therefore if the problem is that the patient is over weighted, that problem specifically needs to be treated firstly to avoid associated medical problems and to provide to each patient the proper treatment to achieve the best results.
Who is the best candidate for Liposuction?
The best candidates are those healthy patients that have realistic results expectations that can be obtained from this surgical procedure. Liposuction offers great results but not perfection. Even though age is a very important determinant factor when choosing candidates, body’s general condition is more important. Best candidates are those who have been on diets and doing exercises and still have anaesthetic fat deposits. Over weight patients can benefit from this procedure, that even though it is not a technique to lose weight, it offers good results. It is ideal that the patient’s weight is close to an ideal weight. There are no absolute limits when it comes to a candidate’s age.
Does liposuction erase or improve cellulite problems?
Liposuction does not eliminate cellulite, but can improve its aspect depending on the stage and some other factors. Cellulite is the result of accumulated fat, toxin deposits and bad circulation that give the skin an orange peel aspect. It is associated to hereditary, nutritional and circulatory factors and to sedentary habits. This is why; treatment should be focused in improving the triggering factors in an integral way: losing weight, increasing liquid and fibre consumption, exercising. Measures like endermology, ultrasound, muscular toning combined to procedures like liposculpture; cellulite can improve its looks.
Will I put on weight again after a liposculpture?
Yes. Undergoing liposuction is just like dieting. When you are on a diet and you lose a certain amount of weight, you will need to keep your habits, a proper alimentation or exercise, in order to not gain it again. Same thing happens with liposuction. You may get the best results possible but, if you don’t take care of yourself you will gain all the weight you had lost. Liposuction’s advantage is that if that gain of weight is not exaggerate, once you lose those extra pounds you will have again the same shape you had after your surgery.
How much weight will I lose with a liposuction?
Patients should not expect an extraordinary lose of weight after liposuction. Liposculpture is not a losing-weight method, even though there is always a lost. Patients should expect a measure reduction that may change between 2 to 4 sizes less depending on the patient. The amount of fat that can be removed also depends on the patient, but it should never go over the 6 litres. Liposuctions that remove more than this amount will need blood transfusions from the same patient.
Would I need to wear a belt? For how long?
Using a belt after the surgery is very important to guarantee the best results. The post surgical belt has many functions: right after the procedure the belt reduces the bleeding and the initial inflammation process. Afterwards the belt cooperates to skin retraction and allows it to take the body’s new shape the belt needs to be used for 2 to 3 months, the time that tissues take to go back to their original structure after a surgery and an inflammatory process.
Would I lose the results if I get pregnant?
It all depends on the weight you gain during the pregnancy. If you weight stays in normal parameters according to your obstetrician and your weight gain is not larger than 35 pounds, your body figure will be the same as before the surgery. There is always a change of fat deposits been left after the pregnancy, but these deposits could be removed with exercises or with a new liposuction.
