Ear surgery or otoplasty is indicated to patients who has thrusted or Dumbo ears.
Most of these surgeries are performed in 4 to 14 year old patients. Adults can under go this procedure.
In many cases, because of the patient’s age, the ear lobe is enlarged. This defect can also be corrected by ear surgery.
PROCEDURE: The intervention lasts between 2 to 3 hours, depending on each patient.
In most otoplasties, the surgeon performs a small incision behind the ear to expose the cartilage. Depending of the technique, sutures may be performed on the external ear cartilage shaping it in the needed way. Skin from behind the ear may also be removed or the cartilage it self might be worked on to be reshaped.
After the surgery a bandage around the head will be placed to keep ears in the proper position and to cooperate with the healing process.
Adults may go back to work in 5 days, while children may go back to school after a week.
Procedure: prominent ears are set closer to the head, large ears are deduced. This procedure is mostly done to children between 4 and 14 years old.
Duration: 30 minutes to an hour.
Anesthesia: According to the patient’s age, the surgeon will decide between general and local anesthesia with sedation.
Hospitalization: Usually ambulatory.
Recovery: Patient’s are usually back to work in 5 to 7 days. Exercising must wait a month or tow.
Duration of results: usually permanent.
