The surgeon will explain the different techniques, the type of anesthesia and the costs of the intervention. Eyelid surgery is usually done using local anesthesia and oral or intravenous sedation. Some surgeons may use general anesthesia.
PROCEDURE
The usual technique is to make small incisions following the natural eyelid lines. Through them, skin will be detached from the subcutaneous tissue and muscles. The accumulated fatty tissue will be removed as well as muscle and skin if necessary. Finally, the skin will be closed with thin sutures.
If in your case there is no need to remove lower eyelid skin, a transconjuntival surgery can be performed, this way the incision is done inside the lower eyelid leaving no visible scars.
There is another technique in which no fat deposit is removed from the lower eyelid. On the contrary, fat is replaced in a better location.
After the intervention the surgeon will spread an ophthalmologic ointment.
