FOR MEN AND WOMEN
Aesthetic surgery of external genitalia of both men and woman is becoming more and more popular every day. These interventions are usually very simple and quick. Their main objective is the patient´s psychological benefit. But since they are not exempt form risks, like any other surgical procedure, they need to be performed by an expert surgeon.
Women undergo this kind of intervention not only because of functional reasons (to avoid more or less intense pain during sexual intercourse) but because of feeling uncomfortable with their genital´s image. They also go through it to improve their personal hygiene.
A common reason of complain is that the labia minora are larger than the labia majora. “The most common reason for medical consultation in women is labia size, and in men, the size of the penis.”.
These situations are the reason for low self esteem, together with shame during sexual intimacy.
There is a stigma among men about how much does size matter. General complain is because the penis does not have the proper length and that its diameter is not wide enough. This happens mainly because society today is very demanding. This causes that any person a little bit more susceptible may think that his size is smaller than average, when most probably the size is a normal one. Most of these men are married and also have children. This self consciousness is not felt with their partners but when they need to undress in a gym. A normal penis today is 3 or 3.34 inches long when flaccid and 5 or 5.5 erected.
Most frequent surgeries performed in female’s genitalia are the aesthetic correction of mons pubis, the clitoris (clitoropexy) and mostly labia (labiaplasty) so that the labia majora will cover the labia minora. Eighty percent of the female patients seek genital rejuvenation so that the area will look just like a teenager´s. this surgery is usually done using local anesthesia and sedation. An option to enlarge the size of the penis is to section the suspensory ligament that attaches the penis to the pubis; another option consists in fat graft with growth factors. In men, besides the typical interventions to enlarge the penis (phalloplasty) and scrotal rejuvenation, other common procedures are testicle implants and the consequences of phimosis and frenulum breve .
