What is a scar? Cicatrization is the way the body has to heal and replace lost or damaged skin. A scar usually consists of fibrous tissue. Scars can appear for many reasons: as a result of an infection, surgery, injuries or inflammation. They can appear in any part of the body. Their structure changes making them look flat, bulging, depressed or colored, they can also hurt or itch. A scar´s final looks depends on many factors like, skin type, the body area were they are placed, the direction the injury has, the person´s age and his/her nutritional condition.
How is a scar reduced?
The specific dermatological process to reduce a scar will be determined by your doctor based on:
- Your age, overall health condition and your clinical history.
- Scar´s severity.
- Your tolerance towards some treatments, medications or therapies.
- The evolution of the condition.
- Las expectativas para la trayectoria de la condición.
- Your opinion or preferences.
Scars can usually disappear with time. While they heal, make up can cover them. There are many dermatological techniques that help make scars less visible. Never the less treatment only improves the scar’s look, it does not erase it.
